This design collaboration produced a creative partnership with different skills sets, working methods and backgrounds. We worked site-responsively by integrating elements of Tiepolo’s frescos in the Venetian Ca’ Rezzonnico interior, such as colours, tone, shapes, texture and trompe l'oeil effects. We explored how to translate the opulent drapes on the sitters in Peter Lely’s portraits and female figures within the mythological paintings cycle by Titian, including Bacchus and Ariadne and Baccanale, into sculpted costumes.
This was an extremely rewarding project creatively and was the first of many future collaborations with Bettina John.
